London's regulatory environment provides a strong incentive for Chinese firms looking to raise capital says UK Trade & Investment's chief executive.

The Chinese government is to consider listing some of the country's vast state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in London.

Andrew Cahn, chief executive of UK Trade & Investment, has held talks with officials from Beijing's state-owned Assets Supervision & Administration Commission (Sasac) in the Chinese capital.

A formal dialogue about China's plans for state-owned companies in sectors such as telecommunications has now been established with UKTI.

"These listings are potentially extremely sizeable and attractive to London," Cahn told The Sunday Telegraph.

"Clearly, Hong Kong is a suitable exchange for many SOEs but I strongly believe London has the most appropriate regulatory environment of any overseas exchange.
